Image Upload

I’ve found that leveraging image uploads for PHP isn’t exactly the easiest thing to wrap your mind around. Do you want to give your client the ability to do massive uploads, or do they really need to be able to put their images in a specific order. With everything web related, there always comes a point where you have to wonder if there is a way to both or whether you have to try and pave your own way. Leveraging both PHP and jQuery should allow for you to be able to do both. Hopefully in a month or two, I will be able to give an example of this after I am done working on a website for a friend of mine who needs a dynamic photography website with a customer login. We shall see how well this experiment goes. I’m sure there could be software out their that does this already, but I also know that it probably isn’t free! Time will tell…

Its amazing what you can do with a great server side script and an easily to manipulate, dynamic language like jQuery. On the website I have been designing for VintageCampers.com, I designed the content management system to allow for uploading of images that are used in jQuery on the main site. PHP can then be used to create a carousel in jQuery that will display any number of images loaded from a from either a database or folder dynamically. Catch ya on the flip side!

I work for a credit union and have been part of a users group that posts questions/answers to all kinds of IT problems. Recently, a large number of topics have been popping up about JavaScript and a lot of the answers have been pointing people in the direction of jQuery.

The questions that I posed to myself was… where have I been and why haven’t I heard about jQuery. Over the past several years I have been such a fan of PHP and all the incredible things you can do with it, and that I never could get to work with JavaScript properly, that I guess I kind of stopped looking for new innovations in JavaScript.

jQuery is without a doubt an incredible tool for web designers and is something that I will be looking into in great detail for an upcoming project for Skyrender Web Enterprises.

It just goes to show that in this field you always have to keep your eyes and ears open… and never discount any technology!
